SMC's Episcopal Lecture Series Presents “Caritas in Veritate: Economic Justice and Human Ecology"

What: “Caritas in Veritate: Economic Justice and Human Ecology,” a lecture by the Bishop of Oakland, Reverend Salvatore J. Cordileone. Bishop Cordileone’s lecture focuses on “Caritas in Veritate” (Charity In Truth) — the third encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI. In this “social” encyclical, Benedict looks at the topics of human development in our time; fraternity, economic development and civil society; the cooperation of the human family; and the development of people and technology.

Faculty reaction panel: Michael Barram, Chair, Theology and Religious Studies, Steven Cortright, Philosophy and Integral Program, Ted Tsukahara, Integral Program and Economics.

Who: Bishop Cordileone was appointed the Fourth Bishop of Oakland on March 23, 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI. Bishop Cordileone presently sits on the Committee for Canonical Affairs and Church Governance of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) as well as on its Task Force on Cultural Diversity. He also serves on the Religious Liberties Committee of the California Catholic Conference.
